MN Navy MARS

Emergency Communications

On request from competent local, state, or federal emergency management or law enforcement authority, NAVMARCORMARS stations are available to assist with civilian communications emergencies. Any MARS station can initiate the MARS emergency communications plan as soon as they receive a request for help.

In Minnesota, we have approximately thirty active stations. The entire state is covered.  We, routinely deliver messages to the most remote of our state's rural counties  A call to any MARS station operator by competent authority can immediately initiate our emergency communications system. A complete roster of Navy-Marine Corps stations in Minnesota can be provided to any local, state or federal emergency management or law enforcement agency upon request to either the Assistant to the State Director for Emergency Communications or the Minnesota State Director.  Requests should be on agency letterhead and signed by the the department personnel responsible for emergency management or law enforcement.

Our state MARS network is a member of NAVMARCORMARS Region Five, which consists of the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.  This entire region's MARS stations can be brought into action, if need be, within literally fractions of an hour. We can even accomplish nation-wide communications when required. Our area of expertise is accurate, timely delivery of message traffic with accuracy as our prime objective.

High Frequency (HF) radio is our primary communications link. NAVMARCORMARS stations make use of all modes of radio operations, from voice to the most advanced digital techniques.

We are anxious to be of service to you if you have need of our services. We would like for you to consider allowing us to participate with you in any emergency drills or exercises in which our help would be appropriate. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to contact the Assistant to the State Director for Emergency Communication or the Minnesota State Director.  We will be happy to hear what you have to say and clear up any questions you might have.

Hopefully, NAVMARCORMARS will not be needed for another catastrophic emergency, but experiences with situations like the terrorist attacks of  September 11, 2001, hurricanes along the eastern seaboard, strong winter storms in the midwest and the California earthquakes serve to keep us humble and aware that we are not in control, but must keep a constant vigil and be ready for whatever the eventuality.

Minnesota Navy-Marine Corps MARS is ready to help you. Please do not hesitate to call on us if we may be of service.
